Starting out in the Scene Shop as a Sophomore in College, I worked three years there before graduating and further developing my skillset through both Over Hire work and in the full time position I have now at Signature Theatre.
Throughout these jobs, I have developed a comfortability utilizing all of the common shop tools and saws, including miter saws, table saws, band & scroll saws, abrasion & cold cut saws, and a variety of hand saws, sanders, ands grinders. I have also worked with a variety of different woods, mouldings, plastics, foams, and metals. Most notably, I have developed considerable experience with MIG welding, theatrical rigging techniques, and common automation practices (primarily Creative Connors systems).
For examples of my work in action, please feel free to check out "Carpentry Samples" tab.
Despite my primary work in carpentry, I have a deep passion for props building and design. While in my senior year of college, I was granted the opportunity to design the entirety of our mainstage season. After graduation, I then took on a staff position at JMU in order to further develop the properties department. Alongside that position, I was also able to take on additional freelance work. A year later, I departed JMU, continuing my freelancing while finding steady work in the DC area.
Throughout the variety of work I've done, I have garnered knowledge in sewing, with resin & silicone, in shaping foam and clay, and with restorative upholstery and paint techniques. It is also through my carpentry experience that I've been able to better grow as an artisan and builder, as both skillsets are so intrinsically linked.
